A Known Place Archives is a project dedicated to the preservation of music and bands that otherwise might one day disappear or be forgotten entirely. This project mainly focuses on punk, hardcore, emo, grindcore, etc from the 90s and onward to the 2000s, an area of expertise for myself as well as an era where a lot of music is forgotten to time. There will be some spotlights of current bands or already well-archived bands too, but the emphasis is keeping knowledge, music, photos and more accesible and available to as many people as possible.

This Project is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and as such I try to spotlight lots of Canadian and Albertan bands. That being said, there is so much great music to be shared from all over the world.

I have spent years focusing on this particular genre of music, listening to it, reseraching it, seeing live bands, writing about it, archiving physical media, promoting shows, and even playing in a band myself. It is more than just a passion, the “punk” or “emo” ethos is something that I live by and value so much. I hope to share this music with as many people as possible and if I can connect to even just a few people, my work will be worth it.

Much of my previous work can be found on Canadian Wasteland Archives which I played a big role in working on for years and spent countless hours contributing various kinds of work to the project. I am unfortunately no longer associated with that project, so going onward you will be able to find all of my work, both from previous years, and current and future work through this blog.

If anyone has any suggestions, concerns, or wishes to contribute to this project, please don’t hesitate to contact me! This project is better the more collborative it can be. I will also take any concerns or issues very seriously should they ever arise.

I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do.
