Mold is a screamo/hardcore band from Minneapolis who formed sometime in 2023 and are currently active and playing shows. They’ve released a demo, a full length album and a split with Rose Ceremony of Austin, Texas.

Mold without a doubt, stands out from the vast sea of currently active screamo bands as one of the best. You can hear very clear influence of their 90s predecessors such as Orchid and Portraits of Past to name a few, but they also put their own twist on it. It feels like both an homage to the past and something completely new and refreshing.

They mix slow melodic and atmospheric guitar parts with insanely heavy and chaotic breakdowns, both elements of all of my favourite emo bands. They expertly meld both aspects together evoking feelings of sadness and anger at the world. Their album flows together, with some songs actually ending and turning into the next seamlessly and beginning with heavier more dissonant songs and moving toward slower more melodic and sad ones so I’d recommend giving it a full chronological listen.

I haven’t heard this band talked about much in the current scene so I wanted to highlight them and hopefully introduce some people to their music. Looking forward to seeing what else this band records.
